Hello, welcome to my blog for my portfolio website! My goal with this website is to honor the twenty years of professional and artistic experiences I have journeyed to create. In the beginning, I was taught at an early age that art can be used to express your feelings when words can’t do them justice, or you feel overwhelmed by the world around you. I was a hyperactive attention-deficit kid with anxiety, and art therapy was an outlet that helped me focus my energy and ideas. As I grew, my love of expression expanded beyond arts and crafts to singing, dance, and theatre. While in college, I found graphic design and animation and earned a degree in both design and marketing. As soon as I could leave the mid-west and strike out on my own, I did! I found many successes in South Florida via agency positions that allowed me to design and market for the biggest brands in the U.S. Durning my twenties, I started volunteering as a seamstress to repair donated clothing for foster kids. This was my first experience with volunteering with a nonprofit, and the desire to help the community started to grow. As I reached my thirties, I moved across the country to Colorado. There I found an opportunity with a Global organization, Medtronic, that allowed me to expand as a digital manager and work with philanthropy organizations. I managed a team of content managers for a global website, training in how to lead people and educate others in inclusion and diversity. I was honored with an elected position to lead an internal volunteer group for 500 women to provide professional and personal programming to expand growth and opportunities. This rewarding experience helped shape my passion for nonprofit management and inclusion, diversity, equity, and access to education. A decade after I started with the company, I was heading back to school to get my Master’s in Art from Denver University. Returning to my passion for creation and seeking to combine my desire to work within nonprofits, I chose an emphasis on Advocacy and Outreach with a minor in Nonprofit Entrapenureship. For the first time in my life, I didn’t have a plan other than I knew what I loved and wanted to learn more about it. People regularly ask, ” What will you do with that degree?” I excitedly responded, “I don’t know yet!” I do know that I want to work for an organization that improves the quality of human life and builds culture via the arts. I’m sure that a paycheck or a title will no longer be the only factor in choosing my path. Recareering into my passion space will ensure that whatever I lead will get the best of me, and my best is remarkable.
